RPEQ-certified design review of a trial floating bird roost, supporting migratory shorebird populations in Moreton Bay.
Project Details
Client: Healthy Land & Water
Date: 2023
Location: Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia

About This Project
The Challenge
A lack of migratory shorebird roosting sites adjacent to important feeding areas in Moreton Bay was contributing to both local and global population numbers. Healthy Land & Water presented ICM with a concept temporary floating bird roost design that required an engineering design review and RPEQ certification for approvals, across three strategically significant sites for migratory shorebirds within Moreton Bay.
The Solution
ICM conducted a site survey at each location using RTK GPS to determine approximate site bathymetry, then completed a site-specific engineering design review for each of the locations - determining design conditions and undertaking force calculations for the innovative structure and anchoring system.
ICM delivered RPEQ-certified engineering drawings and a Safety in Design Assessment, allowing Healthy Land & Water to submit approvals and begin monitoring roost performance over the trial period.
