About This Project
The Challenge
The Kirra Point Groyne Extension project aimed to help reinstate the iconic surfing conditions historically associated with Kirra, by extending the existing groyne by approximately 30 metres - returning it to its original 180m length prior to a 1996 reduction.
The Solution
The works included maintenance and upgrading of the existing groyne, raising its end crest to design levels, and extending the structure using high-durability armour rock. ICM undertook a comprehensive design review based on the City of Gold Coast's nominated design conditions, assisting in the development of construction documentation, specifications, methodology and inspection plans. Throughout construction, ICM provided site inspections to verify material quality, placement accuracy and compliance with design tolerances.
