About This Project

The Challenge

Tallebudgera Creek Beach is a popular tourist destination between Burleigh Heads National Park and Palm Beach, nourished annually as part of the City's dredging and nourishment campaign. Severe erosion during high flood flows undermined several piles and damaged a pedestrian boardwalk at the back of the beach, requiring an urgent response.

The Solution

City of Gold Coast commissioned ICM to design and construct an emergency seawall in response to the erosion. A 40m sand-filled geotextile container seawall was proposed, with additional re-nourishment and re-vegetation of the dune.

ICM carried out a site assessment and terrestrial survey, developed the detailed design, liaised with agencies and stakeholders, obtained quotations, coordinated construction and certified the works. The timeframe from initial site assessment to practical completion of construction was just three weeks - and once the contractor was on site, the works were complete in three days, approximately three to five times faster than a comparable boulder seawall.
